She was never supposed to be back!
No one expected rage-monster extraordinaire PRUDENCE “FREAKY” FARPELIA to ever return to the general public. But what do you do when you’re the scariest kid anyone knows? When people steer clear of you or run for their lives?
After serving a multi-year stint in Juvenile Detention and all the psych evaluations that go with it, Prudence gets one last chance at a normal life when her father’s girlfriend, high school counselor EMMY BALIN, offers custodial stewardship to help keep Prudence sane and in check.
And this creates total uproar at school. These kids witnessed Prudence’s prior episodes of epic destruction. And the former victims of her violence aren’t happy and want her gone. Making it impossible for Prudence to do the three big things required as part of her probation—socialize, be somewhat normal, and make some actual friends. She’s never had a friend her entire life!
But then a saving grace hits her in the oddest way.
It’s day one of the annual Ballroom Dance Unit in P.E. And the biggest loser in school and a former victim, BILLY CASPER, ends up the last man standing when it’s time to partner-up. A total nightmare! He’s now the only kid in school interacting with her in any way. Prudence will take it as a win. Try to make it work.
Until desperate Billy gets a very bad idea…
Out of nowhere, Billy’s beauteous long-time crush (and Prudence’s first victim), ANJELICA AYERS, tells Billy that he’s a potential school hero. It’s just a matter of time. Because it always happens--a random incoherent rage incident from Prudence resurfaces. But what happens when Anjelica suggests a fast-forward--that Billy fully manipulate that rage to trigger?
Suddenly sweet revenge will be theirs! Especially sweet if Billy gets further attention from this girl of his dreams.
The set up? Engage with Prudence and pretend to like her. Then full-on break her heart and unleash the wrath.
Except responding to Billy’s nicer behavior, this crumb of hope sets awkward Prudence on a new quest. She decides it’s time to get a boy to like her...or else! But how? When Anjelica inspires overzealous Billy to go for the kill--asking Prudence to be his date for the Valentine’s Dance, then betray her--a weird thing happens.
And a Pandora’s Box gets opened!
Giddy because of the date, Prudence digs for info on Billy and accidentally discovers that Billy’s Dad died last summer. Prudence’s Dad, GENO, is her rock. She doesn’t know how she’d survive without him. Her abusive Mom has been MIA for most of her life. And she sees a lot of her past behavior starting to manifest in him. Much to his dismay, Billy’s found the first person his own age who understands his rage and desire to lash out at the world.
As they head to the dance, one legit big kiss between Prudence and Billy makes the biggest difference of all. Creating a new dilemma--do the impossible and become the school hero? Or give into a real connection, and contemplate something never considered.
FORGIVENESS.
